About

Hello! My name is Rachael, and I love to cook and eat. But mostly I love to complain about the food I’m eating. I’m a gentleman and a scholar (I recently graduated from the University of North Carolina), and I would like to be a writer with my life. But only if I get rich. You can get rich being a writer, right?
Anywho, if you want to know more about my blog, read it! I started this blog because I’m trying to publish a book about trying to overcome my picky eating, and this is a bit of a repository for all of my food loving and loathing (mostly loathing), and I hope you enjoy it. It’s about 70% NSFW (just cusses, no boobs, sry), so I hope you’re ok with judicious use of the word bullshit. Read about the genesis of the blog and my book project here.
I’m trying to get into more videos and pictures, but I don’t do no recipe bullshit. Aside from the fact that I’m really not into following recipes anyhow, there are about a grillion other blogs out there who do it about 10,000 times better than I could ever hope to. Those blogs are probably in my blogroll, so check them out.
If you just happen to be a literary agent or someone who would like to help me bring this project to fruition, or if you’d like to interview me for any reason, please e-mail me at rachaeloehring (at) gmail (dot) com.

I only eat what I like. Your project to eat what you don’t like sounds like you’re flaying yourself over Catholic guilt about knowing what you want and going for it. I’ve been a temporary expatriate in the Philippines for the last year and a half, writing two as yet unsold novels. Ready to go back home to NC soon. While here I’ve been offered every variety of local food. I’ve rejected more than ninety per cent of it after one taste. Now I get the local foods I like served to me, and at home I don’t get handed bowls of God-knows-what. No prejudice intended. If they like it, it’s all good. Just don’t try and force me to eat it. I know what I like.
I’ve decided you may be on to something real with your subject, Rachael. I wrote my rant about only eating what I like only about four hours ago, and I’ve already had to eat my words. I was required to go to a formal banquet for about fifteen at one of the “best?” restaurants in Manila. I was the only Anglo there, so everyone watched carefully to make sure I had a good meal. I tried at least five dishes and every one of them was Ugly. I felt obligated to take a few bites of each to demonstrate my respect for the hosts. Fortunately I was able to leave early and ate some dark chocolate at home to clear my palate. I didn’t enjoy the food yet I got through the dinner without my hosts losing face.
You should research Warren Buffett’s eating habits, in his biography, “Snowball.” I read the first 450 pages before I ran out of steam. There are about ten pages scattered through this part of the book about eating. He likes only certain simple foods. When he’d go to a grand banquet put on by Katherine Graham, he’d sometimes take a bag with a hamburger and french fries. Fortunately, the concept of losing face was not on Katherine Graham’s menu, since they remain great friends.
I’m going to contribute $100 to your fund, since you dragged a grand rant out of me. A LOT of people have helped me financially while I’ve been writing my novels. I suggest you spend what you receive, right now, and don’t promise to return it. I may not even have this credit card by the time your campaign ends. Take what is given, use it, with blessings.
